How to configure socket connect timeout in C#

To configure socket connect timeout in C#, you can define a new IAsyncResult object that has a built in method BeginConnect() which takes the IP address, Port as parameters and than call AsyncWaitHandle.WaitOne() to set a timeout. If the Async process reaches the timeout specified then it will return false.

using System;
using System.Net.Sockets;

public class Program
	public static void Main()
		string sIP = "";
		int iPort = 9876;
		Socket socket = new Socket(AddressFamily.InterNetwork, SocketType.Stream, ProtocolType.Tcp);
		IAsyncResult result = socket.BeginConnect(sIP, iPort, null, null);
		bool success = result.AsyncWaitHandle.WaitOne(5000, true);

		if (socket.Connected){
		}else {
			throw new ApplicationException("Failed to connect server.");
