Kotlin Function return values

In Kotlin, when creating a function you can have it return a value to main function or where it was called from. This functionality will allow you create generic functions that helps doing separate logic and return the outcome.

To allow a function to return values in Kotlin you will need to use : after parentheses and then specify the value types

also you will need to use return keyword with value needed to be returned.

Example of Kotlin function return Int

fun doSum(x: Int, y: Int): Int {
  return (x + y)
}

fun main() {
  var result = doSum(3, 7)
  println(result)
}

Output

10

Example of Kotlin function return String

fun getHelloMessageForUser(fname: String, lname: String): String {
  return ("hello " + fname + " "  + lname)
}

fun main() {
  var result = getHelloMessageForUser("Jhon", "Smith")
  println(result)
